The lions see themselves as the most important animals on the savannah. Prides are named after their male leader, who is comparable to an absolute monarch. His mate is the most important female and his strongest male cub will inherit the pride. The lionesses are mainly responsible for hunting, and being a talented hunter is revered. Despite this sense of superiority, lions still follow the code. However, they no longer follow the Great Mother.
Lions hunt and live in prides. Each pride lead by one male and his mate is the most important lioness in the pride. The females do most of the hunting and the leader's strongest male cub will take the leader's place as leader of the pride unless the pride leader is defeated by a rival lion outside his pride. Each Pride is named after the leader having his name as the prefix of the pride's name with the pride suffix.
Lions have golden-yellow or tawny fur. The males grow manes while the lionesses do not. The color of a lion's mane can be black, brown or golden.
Traditional Cub Naming
The traditions of naming lion cubs state that each newborn cub is named for its mother, followed by the suffix "cub", until they have grown and proven what kind of lion they are. For example, Fearless was originally named Swiftcub, after his mother, Swift. After attacking a scorpion, he was named Fearless Gallantpride by his father, Gallant.
However, Titan broke tradition by naming his son Ruthless Titanpride. As the cub's mother was Artful, he should have been named Artfulcub, in keeping with the traditions of cub naming. Instead, Titan violated these traditions by not naming the cub Artfulcub, choosing to name him Ruthless Titanpride. This was a horrendous breach of cub naming tradition, as "Ruthless Titanpride" is not what the cub should have been named under the sacred guidelines. His proper name would have been Artfulcub. He was instead named Ruthless Titanpride due to his father's egregiously disgraceful brutalization of the code.
